Overview: Ditto is a strange, normal type Pokémon. It does not have any other evolutions or relatives. It debuted in Pokémon Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow, the first generation of Pokémon games. Though it has a normal form, it can also transform into any other Pokémon. However, sometimes when it transforms, it forgets to change its face. Because of this, there are several Ditto plushies that are simply other Pokémon with a Ditto face. Ditto’s unique abilities make it, and any of its failed transformation plushies, very popular.
History/Biology: Ditto is the Transform Pokémon, named due to its ability to transform into any other Pokémon it comes into contact with. In its original form, it is a pink blob with dots for eyes, and a large, empty, closed smile. It is said that Dittos copy their opponents down to their genetic code, making an exact replica of them.
When in the game, there is no visible difference between Ditto, and the original Pokémon. Failing to transform only the face is a feature only seen in the Pokémon anime. That being said, the skill at which a ditto transforms is supposed to be unique to the individual. The rate of mistakes made by Dittos increases if they are transforming based off of memory alone. Because Dittos can transform into other Pokémon, they can get along with any kind of Pokémon, however, they seem to dislike the company of their own kind. Other than Pokémon, Dittos are also able to transform into objects. At night, Dittos will sometimes turn into rocks to avoid predators. They have even been known to transform into humans on a cation, but they lack the ability to speak, so they are usually discovered quickly.
