Overview: Charmander is a charming, fire type Pokémon. It is the first in a three-stage evolutionary line, which also includes Charmeleon and Charizard. It was the first fire starter, and was released alongside the grass starter, Bulbasaur, and the water starter, Squirtle. It debuted in Pokémon Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow, which are the first generation of Pokémon games. As one of the first starter Pokémon, Charmander is very popular. In fact, Charmander, along with Bulbasaur and Squirtle, are probably the most popular Pokémon in the franchise, besides Pikachu and Eevee.

History/Biology: Charmander is the Lizard Pokémon, named due to its appearance. It is an orange, bipedal, lizard with a yellow belly. It has a large mouth and eyes, and a flame that blazes at the end of its thick tail. The fire on its tail is lit even at birth. Young Charmanders will often burn themselves until they get used to their own fire. Charmander’s lifeforce is connected to the flame on its tail. If the fire goes out, the Pokémon will die. Because of this, Charmander prefers hot places, and isn’t fond of rain.
